The horsepower sizing of the engine needs to accommodate acceleration and continuous torque to operate the vehicle.

With all automatic or manual transmission powertrains, when a vehicle starts to move from a stopped position, engines are not operating near their optimally efficient speed and produce power at the lowest possible level of efficiency. The energy consumption is excessive and costly. This results in unnecessary energy loss and waste.

CVET improves access to acceleration torque for stop/start city driving. CVET enables this torque to be produced at the highest levels of engine efficiency. CITY DRIVING VS HIGHWAY DRIVING ENGINE EFFICIENCY

Every motor, whether internal combustion or electric, experiences varying levels of energy usage efficiency through its range of speeds of operation. Engines' and motors' efficiencies are typically very low at low speeds. They rise to a higher efficiency as the motor speed increases. Peak efficiency is reached only at a narrow range of engine speeds.

For an automobile, a vehicle's peak efficiency can virtually never be reached with an automatic transmission.

Peak fuel efficiency is always available with the CVET. With the CVET, this makes it possible for the energy usage efficiency of a vehicle to always perform at maximum maximum efficiency and use the least possible amount of energy under all city and highway driving conditions.

The graph below illustrates the energy usage efficiency. This is the peak achievable efficiency of the gas or electric (hybrid or fuel cell) motor, of a vehicle over its complete range of operation when a CVET is used to control the vehicle's speed.

A SMALLER ENGINE CAN POWER A CAR WITH THE CVET TRANSMISSION

The torque required to accelerate a car into motion is much higher than the energy required to keep the car at the desired speed. CVET technology enables use of a much smaller gas or electric motor since all of the power from the motor is delivered at its peak efficiency. The CVET technology is better for the environment, wastes less power, and gives the consumer the speed they want under all driving conditions.

ENERGY RECOVERY AND REGENERATION FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES

CVET technology works the same way in forward and reverse directions. CVET technology can also recover energy through regeneration when slowing down or going downhill in an electric vehicle. Most importantly, not only does the CVET technology enable optimally efficient electric motor usage in EV's, it also recovers energy to change its batteries at optimally efficient levels.

The energy required to accelerate a vehicle from a stopped position is recovered during the deceleration cycle. The CVET enables the electric motor to operate as a generator at high efficiency during declaration that most of the energy would be recovered. This energy recovery reduces the amount of energy, used resulting in operation of the Electric Vehicle at higher energy efficiency levels.

The CVET principle of operation enables it to recover dramatically higher levels of regenerative energy during braking, storing the energy in the battery.
